It welcomes a wide range of contributions which examine the way in which individuals groups organisations and institutions shape the employment relationship. The Journal takes the view that a comprehensive understanding of industrial relations must take into account the economic political and social influences on the relative power of capital and labour and the interactions between employers workers their collective organisations and the state. The Journal was established in 1958 by the Industrial Relations Society of Australia which brings together representatives of management the trade unions the government services and the professions as well as specialists in the various academic disciplines concerned with industrial relations.
